Guyana Karate College pays courtesy call on Dr Roopnarine

THE Guyana Karate College (GKC) and the International Karate Daigaku (IKD) recently met with the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Rupert Roopnaraine in an attempt to solicit the ministry’s support.On Friday, June 26, representatives from the GKC and the IKD paid courtesy call on Dr Roopnaraine at which they used the opportunity to request support and recognition for the Karate discipline in Guyana.
The delegation from the GKC and the IKD included Annabelle Carter-Sharma – Architect; Frank Woon-A-Tai – Chief Instructor; Jeffrey Wong, Vice-Chief Instructor; and Rev. Father Compton Meerabux, treasurer.
At the meeting the GKC articulated their wish to see the integration of karate into the CXC curriculum as well as the possibility of establishing the IKD programme at the University of Guyana.
Among the other matters discussed was the completion of the college building, with the GKC seeking financial support from the Education Minister in securing funding.
The GKC was established in 2005. In 2011 it established the International Karate Daigaku (University) with the majority of Guyanese as top masters. Today, the GKC boasts 50 regional organisations in 30 countries, Guyana included.
