Guyana face Antigua and Barbuda in Game one tonight at MSC ground

HISTORY beckons tonight when Guyana’s National Men’s basketballers take on their counterparts from Antigua and Barbuda in the first of a four-game goodwill Challenge Series at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court in Linden, from 21:00 hrs. There will be a supporting game between the Mackenzie High School and the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School at 19:00 hrs.
Both the Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda national men’s teams participated at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships in Road Town, Tortula, in the British Virgin Islands earlier this year where Antigua recorded a 80-60 win and went on to place third in the 2015 CBC Men’s Championship.
With this in mind, the Guyana coaching staff led by Head Coach Darcel Harris and Marlon Rodrigues will be eager to erase the memory of that loss to Antigua and Barbuda with an opening victory tonight.
No doubt a large partisan Linden crowd will be rooting for the Guyana All Star lineup which is expected to be studded with some players from the Mining Town of Linden.
The Guyana team for tonight’s game should include Linden players: Akeem Kanhai, Shane Webster and Chris Williams who were there at the last CBC Championships. Others from the Mining town that could be considered tonight are Orin Rose, Travin Dryden, Harold Adams, Terron Welch, Amineke Archibald and Dennis Niles, all who have represented Guyana at the junior level before and are indeed players with a future.
