Guyana-China Business Council raises over $5M for city clean-up –CHEC donates $1M

THE Guyana-China Business Council has raised $5.5M for the ongoing clean-up work around Georgetown and its environs.Chairman of the Council, Clinton Williams said a number of companies have come onboard, expressing a willingness to support the efforts.

In this regard, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) on Saturday donated $1M towards assisting in the clean-up activities as well.

Williams said several other Chinese companies have made contributions totaling $4.5M.

According to President David Granger administration’s immediate plan for the city, there will be a massive clean-up, which began at the Independence Arch on Brickdam which had been neglected for many years.

Several private business owners and staffers have come forward to lend their support in cleaning up the city since and so far there is a clearly recognizable difference.

Trenches and canals which were clogged with weeds and garbage have been cleaned, allowing a free flow of water.
