Guinness Greatest in the Street … Harmony, West Side Ballers impressive on first night

IT was a night for the ‘Ballers’ as Harmony Ballers ‘A’ and West Side Ballers registered comfortable wins on the opening night of the West Coast/Bank and East Bank zone of the Guinness Greatest in the Street Futsal competition. Thursday evening the Pouderoyen tarmac came alive to witness Harmony Ballers win 4-0 against Champions Boys and West Side Ballers humble Crane Raiders 2-0 in two of the eight contested matches.
Harmony Ballers were led by a double from Shaquille McBean who scored in the seventh and 13th minutes while his team mates Kevin Richards (9th) and Hermon Munroe (12th) chipped in with a goal each.
West Side Ballers registered three first-half goals which were more than enough to get them the victory over the opposition. Denny Morgan, Dwayne St Kitts and Quessey Alleyne scored in the sixth, 14th and 15th minutes, respectively.
There were also some closely contested battles which saw three more victors win by the same score line.
Shattaville Gunners needled Samaroo Dam with the decider being produced by Stephon Griffith in the 11th minute.
Pouderoyen Showstoppers also claimed a 1-0 victory on familiar turf over Best Road Ballers. Marvin Josiah accounted for that goal in the 18th minute.
Agricola Upsetters engaged in a rough battle with Comfort Ballers but the ninth-minute goal from Jermin Jefford was all that was needed to put Upsetters among the points.
Bagotstown Warriors and Water Street Agricola romped to an eventful stalemate but the former held the better nerves in the penalty shootout to snatch the win 5-4.
One of the other two see-saw battles that ended in nil-all draws at full time saw Harmony Ballers ‘B’ win 1-0 on penalty kicks while Brothers United sank Patentia Street Ballers 2-0 in the penalty shootout. (Kizan Brumell)
