GTTA’s Juniors and Seniors tournament serves off today at the CASH

The Guyana Table Tennis Association’s (GTTA)/ Clash of the Champions Seniors/Juniors table tennis tournament will serve off today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and all affiliated members of the association are invited to participate.

The tournament is being sponsored by two former national junior players – Jonathan Sankar and Orin Hickerson – and will feature seniors and 18 years and under players and is expected to attract over 75 players.
Sankar was optimistic about the end of the year 2014 tournament, and said it is truly critical in the sense that it specifically targets the seniors, “we will build the seniors into better competitors, we got a lot of seniors playing, and to bring them together in competition is quite pivotal to moving and advancing the sport,” Sankar stated.
Hickerson noted that the tournament is beneficial to grooming the 18 years and under of the nation, and he is pleased to have this opportunity to partner with Sankar, “we want to be able to play our role in terms of not only developing table tennis talent but also enhancing and fostering those values that would make players better students and better citizens of Guyana”.
Players expected to participate are Kyle Edghill, Elishaba Johnson, Miguel Wong, Sheldon Atherly (Bartica), Stephan Sankar (Berbice), Shemar Britton, Jamaal Duff, Kevon Corbin, Bryton Murray (Berbice), Joshua Lalbachan (Berbice), Christopher Franklin, Joel Alleyne, Paul Meusa, Jonathan Sankar, Warren Hacksaw, Orin Hickerson, Brad & Brandon Belle (Bartica),Gibran Sarfaraz (Berbice) Jody-Ann Blake, Natalie Cummings, Akeicia Nedd, Chelsea Edghill, Pricilla Greaves, Kristie Lopes, Selenas Jackman, Davonna Bess and Angeli Persaud (Berbice).

The GTTA will coordinate the tournament fixtures; provide umpires, tables and balls among other resources to host the tournament, which is aimed at: fostering camaraderie among students, promoting/creating a healthy lifestyle through sport, opportunity to participate in recreational activities and promoting the basic objectives of the GTTA that is to have more players actively participate in the sport.
