THE Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has planned tournaments for Cadets and Juniors which will commence next month.GTTA secretary Linden Johnson yesterday said that the tournaments would be used to shortlist players for the Caribbean Cadet/Junior Table Tennis tournament scheduled for April in the Dominican Republic.

Persons interested in participating in the upcoming tournaments must register with the association no later than January 30.
Johnson said that at present the GTTA has not scheduled tournaments for the Pre Cadets as a response from the Barbados association is being awaited.
“Barbados would be hosting the Caribbean Pre Cadets tournament but no word on the date has been received as yet. We are expecting a word soon and once that is received our Pre Cadet preparation plans would be drafted,” Johnson said.
The Cadets and Juniors local tournaments will serve off on February 1 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The GTTA will require players to submit to fitness checks on February 8, as part of the selection criteria for the team to Dominican Republic,
Meanwhile, the annual National Sports Commission Mashramani tournament is scheduled to commence on February 13.
The competition is open to Mini Cadets (nine years and under), Pre Cadets, Cadets, Juniors, Under-21 and senior players. Registration for this tournament closes on February 11.
