GT&T sacks five amidst major shakeup

THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), in a move that sent shockwaves among staffers, sacked five of its employees, many of whom have long service with the company.

This publication was reliably informed that among those fired are Abena Fung, a contracted employee; Rohini Seepaul; Marcia Best; and Sharon Archer.

Deslyn Morris, another of the employees who was let go yesterday by the utility company, had passed the age of retirement and was asked to resign.

The move came as a surprise to the fired staffers, many of whom left the company’s office in tears, while many of the other employees expressed shock and dismay at the move, which has prompted speculations of even more sackings in the near future.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that the employees were attached to the Company’s Marketing and Sales Departments.

Efforts to contact the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Radhakrishna Sharma, in a bid to ascertain the rationale behind the dismissals proved futile.
