GUYANA’S ‘Green Machine’ will go up against their arch rivals Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday at Hasely Crawford Stadium with one thing on their minds – revenge.Revenge for last year’s Rugby America North (RAN) South Zone final where Guyana were the recipients of a 22-20 beating, primarily because they failed to successfully convert kicks, something that will not be the case this time around according to president of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) Peter Green.
“This year, we find that Ryan Gonzalves our kicker has been in fine form. That is the major man we are depending on to kick. His kicking has given us tremendous points. He’s been kicking well this year and that’s one of our secret weapons,” contended Green.
Briefing the media yesterday morning, the GRFU boss added that there is no doubt about his side and this country’s chances of crushing the Twin Island Republic.
“We are winning this game! When we come back, we are looking for the reception and the accolades that we deserve as hardworking rugby players,” he added, reminding that “this game coming up is very important not only to national pride or revenge.”
In fact, should Guyana beat Trinidad, they will rise up the rankings in both the world and the Americas. Guyana are ranked 10th in the Americas and 53rd in the world while Trinidad sit eighth and 45th respectively.
The team will depart this morning from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) and will return on Sunday.
The full squad reads: Kevin McKenzie, Richard Staglon, Ronald Mayers, Claudius Butts and Peabo Hamilton, Jason Tyrell McArthur, Rickford Cummings, Kevon, Jose Felicien, Dwayne Schroeder, Jamal Angus, Delroy Gordon, Ryan Gonsalves, Avery Corbin, Lancelot Adonis, Patrick King, Godfrey Broomes, Osie McKenzie, Cyon Kitt, Triton Brathwaite, Grantley Williams and Toby David.
