THE Guyana Press Association is deeply saddened by the passing of Sports journalist Calvin Roberts. Mr Roberts, 44, passed away last evening after a period of hospitalisation.
While reporting on sports, Mr Roberts shared a love of cricket and his colleagues knew him for fast bowling and decent left-handed ability while playing for Ace Warriors, a second-division team that featured regularly in the Georgetown Cricket Association limited-overs competition.
He was also a youth member of Malteenoes Sports Club, and served as the Public Relations Officer of the Rose Hall Sports and Youth Club.
In 2013, he was named Sports Journalist-of-the-Year by the Guyana Cricket Board. Mr Roberts exhibited a deep passion for his profession worthy of emulation by his peers.
The Guyana Press Association extends deepest sympathy to his family, other relatives, colleagues and friends of Mr Calvin Roberts.
