PLAY in the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Open Badminton tournament commenced on Wednesday last at the National Gymnasium in the Men, Ladies and Mixed Doubles events.
The results from day one are as follows: Men’s Doubles quarter-finals:
Ronald Chang Yuen and Avinash Odit defeated William Holder and Haymant Ramdhani 21-16, 21-16.
Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra trounced Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj: 21-5, 21-10.
Darrell Carpenay and Marlon Chung beat Dr Harry Gorle and Nandha Kishore: 21-11, 21-8.
Gokarn Ramdhani and Nicholas Ali roughed up Cecil Abrams and Fardeen Alli: 21-9, 21-9.
Men’s Doubles round one:
Dr Harry Gorle and Nandha Kishore overwhelmed P. Ramnarayan and Armand Ramdhani: 21-3, 21-15.
Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj thrashed Tyreese Richards and Jamaal Humphrey: 21-5, 21-9.
Ladies’ Doubles semi-finals:
Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj whipped Kara Abrams and Wonita Yang: 21-7, 21-8.
Ayanna Watson and Emelia Ramdhani bettered Priyanka Shivnauth and Gabriella Pertab: 21-19, 19-21, 21-12.
Mixed Doubles quarter-finals:
Jonathan Mangra and Ambika Ramraj prevailed against William Holder and Angelica Holder: 21-15, 17-21, 21-14
Darrell Carpenay and Ayana Watson thrashed Fardeen Alli and Priyanka Shivnauth: 21-8, 21-6.
The tournament continues today at the same venue from 17:00hrs.
