GLTA/Assuria Insurance 2015 Open Classic Tennis Leacock marches into semi-final round

LEYLAND LEACOCK marched into the semi-final round of the Assuria Insurance 2015 Open Classic tournament with a 2-0 win over arch rival Benjatton Osborne when play in the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA)-organised tournament continued last weekend.According to a GTA release, Osborne advanced to the quarter-final round with a 6-4, 6-7, 62 win over William Spangler, but in his quest for more success in the tournament, he went down to tennis coach Leyland Leacock 6-3, 6-2, with Leacock earlier defeating fellow coach Andre Erskine at 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.

The Leacock/Osborne match drew much interest since the two squared off in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Open tournament last year and old scores were to be settled, but Leacock in his quest for the title won 6-3, 6-2.
In other results, Philbert Clarke defeated Hemant Dalip 6-3, 6-2, while Nicholas Glasgow claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stephen Bailey.
At set-all, Harry Panday retired and Keenan Persaud took the win, Mark McDonald won 6-3, 6-2 against Hemraj Resaul, number 1 seed, Anthony Downes, had a win of 6-0, 6-3 against Oswin Coggins, while the veteran Rudy Grant seemed to have not fully recovered from the previous night’s match and fell at the hand of the young Daniel Lopes 6-0, 6-1.
Lopes later went on to take a 6-1, 6-1 win against Nicholas Glasgow, with the Novice Medley finals set for this weekend.
Last year’s GBTI finalist Charles Adams will be battling against the Trophy Stall Doubles winner, Daniel Razick.
Adams defeated Philbert Clark 7-5 and Fiona Bushell 6-3 to reach this round, while Razick overcame Jamal Goodluck at 6-3 and Romario Chanderballi secured a 6-2 win against newcomer Floyd Thompson.
In the female category, Kizzy Richmond squared off against Shelly Daly Ramdyhan in the Ladies’ Open and lost 6-0, 6-2, while daughter Nicola Ramdyhan got the better of Aretta Dey 7-6(9-7), 6-0.
