GCA/BRAINSTREET U-15…Hetheramani, Nedd, Bookie lead DCC ‘A’ to win

… GNIC, TSC, DCC ‘B’ also win
DEMERARA Under-15 trio in Sagar Hetheramani, Ashmead Nedd and Alphius Bookie all churned out impressive performances for defending champions Demerara Cricket Club ‘A’, who defeated Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by six wickets in their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/BrainStreet Under-15 tournament yesterday.Also recording victories in the one-day tournament were Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), Transport Sports Club and DCC ‘B’ teams, who defeated Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Bel Air RUBiS and Everest Cricket Club respectively.
Playing at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground, DCC ‘A’ saw the Thomas Lands-based MSC lineup bat first scoring a paltry 74 in 28 overs – Ronaldo McGarrell top-scoring with 22 (3×4).
Hetheramani took 3 for 1, while Nedd, Darian Dickson and Kristoff DeNobrega picked up 2 wickets each for 7, 16 and 24 runs respectively for DCC ‘A’, who in reply scored 77 for 4 from 15 overs, thanks to Bookie’s unbeaten 33 (6×4) and an unbeaten 15 from Hetheramani, even as Andrew Persaud claimed 2 for 7 for MSC.
At GCC, GNIC batted first and scored 172 for 5, thanks to Christopher Campbell’s 48 (3×4), 37 from Georgetown Under-15 skipper Joshua Persaud that included four fours, 30 from Kurt Lovell and 21 from Ricky Dass.
Stephon Wilson snared 2 for 26 for GCC, who were bundled out for 69 off 24 overs in reply, with Wilson 16 and Stephan Ward 15 being their principal scorers, as Dass took 3 for 10 and received support from Persaud, Haifa Walters and Paul Thomas with 2 wickets each for 9, 10 and 16 runs respectively, as GNIC completed the win by 103 runs.
At Muslim Youth Organisation ground, TSC faced Bel Air RUBiS, batted first and scored 103 before they were bowled out in 27.3 overs, with Extras top-scoring with 38, while Daniel Scott made 22, Devon Allen 16 and Colin Barlow 12 for TSC.
Alex Chunilall took 5 for 33 and Nand Sanicharran and Vishal Moorchand 2 wickets each for 24 and 33 runs respectively for Bel Air RUBiS, who in their turn at the crease were bowled out for 57 in 21.5 overs.
Chunilall made 13 and Bisham Sharma 11 for Bel Air RUBiS, who found it difficult to handle the bowling of Antonio Anthony and Mark Baptiste 3 for 7, and 3 for 9, respectively and Joel Spooner, 2 for 20.
At the DCC ground in Queenstown, Everest Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat first. They were bowled out for 104 from 21.1 overs, with Zaheer Bristol top-scoring with 28 (4×4) and Kishon Bhola offering support with 20 (2×4).
Osapho Greene and Rawle Douglas took four wickets each for 14 and 33 runs respectively for DCC ‘B’, who in reply scored 106 for 4 from 30 overs, thanks to Anthony Roopnarine’s 40 (3×4) and Extras 33, as Krishna Singh took 2 for 22, including the prized wicket of Seelah Thompson (9) who was magnificently caught by a diving Mandy Mangru – the lone female in the game – at short extra cover.
