GBBC’s `Bad Intentions’ boxing card

…Khan intent on turning tables on Gomes

GUYANA’s newest lightweight boxing sensation Imran Khan says he is intent on turning the tables on Quincy Gomes when the two face off in the Guyana Boxing Board of Control’s (GBBC) `Bad Intention’ card slated for August 27 at the Giftland Mall, Lillendaal, East Coast Demerara. In a recent interview, Khan said he will be better prepared for the August 27 fight than when he lost a points’ decision to Gomes the last time the two met.
Khan said that on the last occasion he and Gomes met, he was good for the first three to four rounds, but weakened during the final two and could not have been as fierce as he was during rounds three and four, when he took the fight to Gomes who at the time did not have an answer for the onslaught.
However,he weakened in the final two rounds, allowing the more experienced Gomes to have the upper hand and eventually won on points.
This time however, Khan said he will be working on his stamina to ensure he would have enough energy to last the full six rounds of the lightweight contest.
Gomes,on the other hand said he will be looking to finish the fight in the first round so his (Gomes) stamina would not be a problem. “I will be going into the ring with a criminal mentality” Gomes stated, to which Khan replied “If you beat me this time around, I’ll stop boxing.”
Gomes then replied, “I don’t think you should wait until you lose to quit, quit now.”Khan would however not have any of that talk as he said “you said that before the last fight”, but Gomes interrupted saying, “I wanted to give the fans some entertainment, that’s why.”
The remainder of the five-fight card will see Dexter Gonsalves of Guyana facing off with DeMarcus `Chop Chop’ Corley in a 12-round fight for the World Boxing Council’s Fecabox Lightweight title.
Mark Austin of Guyana will engage Jamaica’s Richard `Frogy’ Holmes in an eight-round middleweight clash.
Holmes has replaced his fellow Jamaican Michael Gardner for the fight.
Anthony Narine will be making his professional debut against fellow Guyanese Keeve Allicock in a lightweight contest over four rounds, and Kesley George takes on Charwin Easdtwick in a super middleweight bout over four rounds.
