FREE AT LAST!

A WOMAN who allegedly for years was imprisoned in a room by her mother was yesterday freed during a government-conducted outreach on the Essequibo Coast. The article, which detailed events fit for a movie, received over 1,000 shares, as people were eager to express their disgust at the cruelty of the woman’s mother due to the deplorable state of the confines in which she had been kept. While the details of the story remain murky, the mother claims the woman was mentally ill and had been a victim of rape, and she said this had led to her decision to imprison the woman. Neighbours claim otherwise, but one thing is for sure: it’s sad to think that this woman thought that the best decision would be to confine her daughter in a room “not even fit for pigs”, as was stated by one person. If her mental health was at risk before, years of confinement and the threat of rape and other gory details must have certainly made it worse. At least the woman will now get the treatment she requires.

LGE Mix-up
The Internet is still talking about the LGE mix-up following the announcement of candidates. Here’s what happened: #teambenschop expressed its concerns based on reports in a Stabroek News article which stated that the PPP/C candidate was Robeson Benn (also a GECOM Commissioner). Many others joined in the objection, stating that “Guyana deserves better” and that it was a conflict of interest for a candidate to also be a Commissioner of the Elections Commission. It looked like a ruckus would have ensued online; but, thankfully, both GECOM and Stabroek News cleared up the issue, stating that it was Benn’s son, Brindley Hamid Robeson Benn, who was in the running.

#teambenschop, in a statement, expressed its appreciation for the clarification. Seems like #teambenschop is on the ball. Carry on!
