FRANKIE’S team of West Bank Demerara emerged victorious in the recently concluded Masters Invitational dominoes tournament, hosted by the Golden Masters on Tuesday at the South View Tavern. Frankie’s, who are now $150 000 richer and in possession of the winners’ trophy, beat off the Strikers and Phantom teams who finished second and third respectively in the keenly contested tournament. Strikers carted off $100 000 and a trophy for their efforts while Phantom picked up $50 000 and a trophy.
The twelve-team tournament saw participants from East Coast Demerara (ECD), Georgetown, East Bank Demerara (EBD), West Coast Demerara (WCD) & West Bank Demerara (WBD). Robbie Grovesner of Frankie’s team was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) after being the only player in the final to obtain 18 games. He collected $10 000 and a trophy for that performance.
The sponsors included B & M Stephens Mining, Bibi Mohammed Mining, West Kaburi Mining, Strikers Sports Bar, Dynasty, Big Boss Transportation Service and Future Mineral Investments & Consultancy.
Meanwhile, organisers have indicated their intention to make the tournament an annual one and to involve the corporate sector in the next edition.
