Fmr GRA employee jailed for three years on cocaine charge …fined $1.9M

FORMER employee of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Clive David was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $1.9M by Magistrate Fabayo Azore for trafficking cocaine.David, of Lodge, Georgetown, had pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty by Magistrate Azore at the end of the trial.

The court heard that between April 9 and 11, at the Georgetown Post Office Cooperation (GPOC), Robb Street, he had 647 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

According to reports, police attached to the Narcotics Branch, Eve Leary, conducted a routine check on a mail bag bounded for JFK Airport. As a result of the search, five sealed envelopes containing cocaine were found.

During the trial, Clive stated that he was given the packages with the illegal substance by someone and was promised a payment of US$1000 to post the prohibited substance to the US.
