Five teams advance in BCCI first division 50-overs cricket

ALBION Community Centre, Young Warriors, Port Mourant, Police and Blairmont Community Centre have joined Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets advanced to the second round of the 2015 Berbice Bridge Company Inc. First Division 50-Over Knock-out cricket competition in Berbice.

In the first-round encounters, former Guyana T20 batting star Jonathan Foo slammed 61 not out (6 fours, 2 sixes) to lead Albion Community Centre to a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Edinburgh.
He and Guyana Under-17 batsman Adrian Sukhwa (36) had put on 75 for the 2nd wicket.
Winning even more comfortably were Port Mourant, who cruised to a 9-wicket win over Skeldon Community Centre thanks to Under-19 off-spinner, Lloydel Lewis.
Lewis picked up 4 for 11 from 7 overs to partner medium pacer Avishkar Sewkarran with 4 for 18 from 7 overs, to bowl out Skeldon Community Centre for 91 before he came back with the bat to score 42 not out.
Young Warriors did well to exploit their home advantage on a pitch that had preparation moisture, to bowl out Tucber Park for a paltry 90 with medium pacer Vishal Mohabir picking up 3 for 28 from 10 consecutive overs.
In their response, they slipped to 33 for 3 before former Berbice batsmen Maxie De Jonge (40 n.o.) steered them home.
Berbice off-spinner Krishnadat Ramoo took 4 for 14 from 7 overs to help West Berbice restrict Police to 133.
But with their off-spinner Kwesi Mickle taking 3 for 18 from 5 overs and medium pacer Michael Campbell 3 for 21 from 7, Police in turn bowled out West Berbice for 87.
Blairmont Community Centre for their part advanced after Bush Lot Rising Star had to withdraw from their first round match.
Meanwhile, the competition continues this weekend with three second-round matches.
On Saturday, Young Warriors and Police clash at Cumberland ground while on Sunday, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets and Port Mourant clash at Rose Hall Town and Albion Community Centre will meet Blairmont Community Centre at the Albion ground.
