ENVY IS A TERRIBLE THING

The Opposition collective has reached a new low with the brouhaha they have created over the Education Minister’s decision anent opting for a private rather than a public school to nurture her child’s education.

Everyone is free to do the same as she has done. She has options which she has exercised. Why is this decision of hers a problem? This newspaper holds no brief for Minister Priya Manickchand, but takes issue with the fact that, in this democracy that the PPP/C Government has re-established, a parent is not free to make choices of what they consider to be the best option for their child’s nurturing; and consideration needs to be given to the fact that Minister Manickchand is not a single parent and the child’s father also has an input into making choices appropriate for their peculiar circumstances for their children.

This newspaper holds no brief for Minister Priya Manickchand, but takes issue with the fact that, in this democracy that the PPP/C Government has re-established, a parent is not free to make choices of what they consider to be the best option for their child’s nurturing…The ugly-minded, dark-souled miscreants who aspire to power in the land are sinking to the lowest levels to castigate a parent for doing the best for her children.

Government officials are very vulnerable, especially with a violence-prone political Opposition, so it is judicious to guard their most prized possessions, which are their children. While guards can be posted at homes it would be very stifling for a child to have a bodyguard at school who would ensure its safety from the evil spawned by the miasmic minds proliferating our society; so the next best option is to place them in a protected environment: But why is this an issue?

The depths to which the narrow-minded Opposition cabal can descend is amazing. Envy is a terrible thing. It corrupts the mind; or rather, only corrupted minds can be so grudging of another person’s success in life.

How fair is it that those who embroil themselves with disporting and profligacy should covet the acquisitions and personal enhancement of those who have made sacrifices to reach goals that would create synergies for advancement of themselves and loved ones?

It should be noted that the President’s children, the GRA boss’s children, Finance Minister Ashni Singh’s wife, Attorney General Anil Nandlall’s wife; and the latest and most odiferous, with the victim being a mere baby, have all been subjected to the vilest and extremely vindictive attacks by the Opposition cabal, including their media satellites.

Ministers’ families should be left alone. The ugly-minded, dark-souled miscreants who aspire to power in the land are sinking to the lowest levels to castigate a parent for doing the best for her children. The Minister is working to upgrade educational system in a developing country. From subterranean standards the PPP/C Government has achieved the UN MDG in primary education and is fast approaching this achievement for secondary education.
Tertiary education and skills development is being pursued to an extent that even parents who can afford to send their children to private schools now opt for public institutions. Ministers’ children are vulnerable and she is being a responsible parent in protecting her child from potential harm – psychological, physical or otherwise. She invested in and achieved a status in life whereby she can afford some privileges for her children. Others should also aspire to this if they so wish. Why begrudge her?

While some persons choose to party and have a good time others choose to burn the midnight oil and strive for excellence – not merely for themselves, but for their offspring. How fair is it that those who embroil themselves with disporting and profligacy should covet the acquisitions and personal enhancement of those who have made sacrifices to reach goals that would create synergies for advancement of themselves and loved ones?
