Elliot Vieira looking to build on CMRC success

SPORTBIKE prodigy Wayne Elliot Vieira will return to the South Dakota Circuit on August 9 for the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) National Race of Champions.
According to the youngster, he is looking to build on his successful run at the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) first round in Jamaica. In only his second appearance locally, Vieira says that the Jamaica trip has really pumped up his outlook. “The performance in Jamaica has boosted my confidence tremendously.”
He managed to prosper under the pressure in the first of the three CMRC super-stock races in Jamaica despite Stephen Vieira breathing down his neck.
The young Vieira says this also has improved his on-track confidence. “Stephen (Vieira) has been the Caribbean champion for the last 10 years so riding with him has definitely increased my performance on the track. Right now I’m hoping to be successful. Every track has its advantages and disadvantages for riders”
Another boost to his morale, according to the School of the Nations student, has been his father Wayne, a former Guyanese and Caribbean champion, who was often times regarded as one of the icons of the two-wheel division. “My father has definitely been my role model and without him I wouldn’t be the rider that I am today. I have also had great support from Andrew Phang and Charles Godfrey.”
Vieira is expected to be one of the main attractions in the superbike class come August 9 when the GMR&SC hosts the Race of Champions.
He currently sits second in the CMRC point standings with 61 points, closely trailing Stephen Vieira who has 68 and has set himself as a serious contender in the CMRC two super-stock divisions. His red and white Kawasaki is sponsored by Ramchand Auto Spares. He is also expected to make up the Guyanese contingent that will tour Barbados later.
