THE charred remains of a senior citizen who lived alone were removed from her home which was razed by fire on Sunday morning.The police disclose that at about 02:30hrs on Sunday, a fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the home of 70-year-old Bhagmatie Persaud of Lot 90 Hope West, Enmore, East Coast

Demerara (ECD). After the blaze had been extinguished, Persaud’s remains were found among the debris.

Investigations are in progress.

According to Leilawattie John, one of her six children, her mother had surgery to her eyes six years ago, and had difficulty seeing when light fades. She said the fire could have been started if her mother had knocked down the kerosene stove that she would normally use.

The daughter explained that since the death of her father, several years ago, her mother had decided to live by herself, since she was a quiet person.
