Duo each granted $100,000 bail on robbery allegation

DAVID Alexander, a 26-year-old miner of Lot 66 Hadfield Street, and Glen Dey, a 27-year-old construction worker of Lot 284 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and denied that on April 10 at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, they together robbed Michael Layne of a BLU cellular phone and cash $10,000. The prosecution’s facts are that on the day in question, at about 23:30 hrs, Layne was confronted by both defendants, who relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge. The matter was reported and an investigation was carried out.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail on grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. He added that if granted bail, the duo would not return for their trial.

They were nevertheless each granted bail in sum of $100,000, and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for calling on April 27 for statements.
