Duo accused of robbing Royal Castle deliveryman on remand

A DUO accused of robbing Royal Castle deliveryman of cash and a cellular phone were remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday.Akeem Halton, 18, of 237 Lodge Housing Scheme, Georgetown, along with a juvenile of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, both pleaded not guilty to two charges, one of which said on April 15 at Georgetown, being in company of others armed with a knife, they robbed Derek Jones of one Blackberry cellular phone valued $45,000.
The other charge said on the same day, they robbed the same virtual complainant of one bag valued $8,300 and $50,860 in cash, property of Royal castle.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Madan Kisson represented the juvenile, while the other defendant was unrepresented. Defence counsel requested bail in a reasonable sum, by taking into consideration his client’s age.
Police corporal Dinero Jones, prosecuting, said the defendant was on his motorcycle when four men attacked him with a knife. They relieved him of the articles mentioned and made good their escape. He managed to raise an alarm; and with the assistance of public spirited citizens, two of the robbers were caught.
The prosecutor successfully objected to bail, by citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the case was put off to May 23.
