Dear Editor,
I HAVE been following the ongoing parking meter controversy in the media with much interest (maybe the better word is dismay), more especially since, as a driver in Georgetown, the issue is likely to directly affect me and my pocket at some time or the other.Maybe a better approach to the whole thing would have been for someone to verify the authenticity of foreign companies with whom the City would wish to do business. They can check on the resources available to these companies within Guyana, for example, they can do a credit check on the parking meter company in this case. Since we now have a Credit Bureau in Guyana, shouldn’t their services be utilised to do these checks?
This would certainly have saved the council some embarrassment and negative publicity. In fact, I would say that the check can still be done, since the allegations are still flying thick and fast. It would be interesting to see which side will do it first.
Regards,
