THE United Women for Special Children (UWSC) has helped the National Commission on Disability (NCD) to acquire some 41 books on disability and rehabilitation for its resource centre.Francesca Pires, a member of the UWSC, handed over the books to NDC Advocacy and Communications Officer Avonel Corrica at a simple ceremony held at the NCD Headquarters on Croal Street, Georgetown. Present at the proceedings were NCD Vice Chairperson Vidushi Persaud; Immediate Past President of UWSC, Angela Rahaman; and Maisa Da Silva, a member of the UWSC.

NCD had, in August 2015, forwarded a proposal to UWSC regarding upgrading its resource centre, and in March 2016, a sum of $256,195 was given to the NCD towards the initiative. The NDC contributed the balance of $337,805 towards the total cost of the books, being $594,000; thus the books were procured online.

The primary objective of the UWSC is to help children with special needs meet their highest potential by assisting with resources to meet educational, recreational, hearing-impaired, life training, or welfare assistance needs.

UWSC is registered with the Friendly Societies as a non-profit organisation.
