AS the date for staging the inaugural Guyana Festival draws closer, more corporate entities continue to come on board in support of this event.

Digicel Guyana, on Friday made a donation of $2M to the Ministry of Tourism in support of this promising event. Speaking at a press briefing at the Tourism Ministry’s Boardroom on South Road, subject Minister Irfaan Ali welcomed the company on board, and highlighted that the Ministry has always received tremendous support from that entity.

He related: “This company has consistently been playing a key role in community initiatives and national initiatives, so as to promote our culture and promote Guyana,” even as he highlighted that this festival is aimed at bringing the country and its people together.

“This is exactly what we expect the festival to do — bringing our country together; our people together; celebrating together; dancing together; singing together; eating together; playing together; drumming together…”

Digicel Guyana’s Advertising and Sales Manager Alexis Longhorn said the company is very pleased to be on board with the Tourism Ministry, as it is always looking at ways to give back to the community.

“Let’s take this opportunity for Guyana Festival to unite us and make this event a successful one,” Longhorn said as she encouraged all Guyanese to come out and support their local talents and explore their culture, since “we are a land of six peoples.”

Langhorn also took the opportunity to wish the Ministry of Tourism, on behalf of Digicel, a successful event.

The opening ceremony will be on Friday, August 8, and will feature a fusion of Guyanese cultures comprising various dramatic performances; highlighting dramatic groups; and showcasing craft, dance, poetry and painting.
