DIGICEL Guyana on Wednesday hosted a dental outreach and backpack distribution exercise in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Central Georgetown Mobile Dental Unit at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, which saw a huge turnout of children between the ages of six to 16.

Speaking on behalf of the team of eight, Dr. Anna Collins said that they are based at the Cheddi Jagan Dental School on Carmichael Street, Georgetown but they were part of the dental outreach where children had fluoride

treatment, extractions and cleaning of their teeth done.

She stated that they saw as many children as they could have from the time they arrived at Parika at about 08:00hrs and were overwhelmed with the turnout.

Meanwhile, Digicel Communications Manager, Vidya Bijlall-Sanichara told this publication that the dental outreach/backpack distribution was fitting since their aim is to give back to the community and they utilised the opportunity during the August holidays to meet the dental needs of school-aged children.

She noted that they had a similar exercise in Berbice in which more than 100 children showed up and it is the third year for the exercise which benefitted more than 200 kids in total at both locations in Berbice and at Parika.

One of the many children, Krystal Munroe, who was brave enough to have an extraction said that it was her first visit to the dentist and was surprised how simple the process was.

She was also thankful for the tokens she received, compliments of Digicel, which included a school haversack and a water bottle.
