The Diamond Mineral Water Hockey Festival opened last evening in Georgetown with tense action at the National Gymnasium. The tournament which features 18 teams split into three categories (men, women, and veterans) will run until Sunday when the finals will be contested.
In the women’s division, the Pizza Hut G-C-C side will battle the Hikers and the Old fort teams while in the veterans’ class, the Hikers, GCC, Old Fort, Barbados’ YMCA, and Trinidad’s Malvern and Caribs will do battle.
The male action is divided into two groups; the first zone featuring the Pepsi Hikers, Trinidad’s Malvern and Carib Teams and the Under 21 side while Zone B features The 6IX, Bounty GCC, Old Fort and Phoenix.
The winner of the tournament in both the male and female division will cart of US $1000 while the runners up will take home US$500.
On the veteran end of things, the winner will take home US$500.
Most valuable player trophies will also be up for grabs and will be presented after the competition on Sunday evening, at the National Gymnasium, the tournament’s exclusive venue.
