Dharamlall, a former permanent secretary of the then Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, is accused of issuing threats to an official of the Inter-American Development Bank. Media reports indicate that the alleged threat was made last week at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

In a very terse statement, attorney for Dharamlall, Glenn Hanoman, said: “Given the sensational speculations and inaccurate information already in the public domain, I am constrained, on behalf of my client, to clarify the following: we, first and foremost, wish for the matter to be thoroughly and professionally investigated. Secondly, and towards this end, I have advised my client not to comment on the issue or engage the media so as not to interfere with, or prejudice, this process. My client unequivocally denies any involvement in any criminal act,” Hanoman’s statement affirmed.
