PETER Michael DeGroot and Maya Collins walked away as winners of the Open and Category` A’ Guyana Squash Association’s Ansa McAl/Lucozade Handicap Squash Tournament which concluded yesterday at the Georgetown Club.The tournament was sponsored by Ansa McAl in collaboration with Digicel.
In summarised results of the main draw, Peter Michael DeGroot handicap minus 8 (-8) beat Taylor Fernandes (7) 2-1 (15/13, 13/15, 15/12, while Maya Collins beat Demetrius DeAbreu 2-0 (15/8, 15/11). Taylor Fernandes and Nyron Joseph placed second and third respectively, in the main draw.
In the Open Main Draw, Ben Mekdeci (handicap of –13) beat Brigadier Michael Atherly (10) 2-1 (-9/15, 15/11, 16/14); Kamir Khan beat Mohryan Baksh 2-0 (15/5, 15/7); Michael Alphonso beat Dominic Collins 2-0 (15/13, 15/11);Nyron Joseph (-6) beat Regan Pollard (0) 2-1 (4/15, 15/12, 15/6); Ethan Jonas beat Kirsten Gomes 2-0 (15/12, 15/10); and Ashley DeGroot beat Jonathan Fernandes 2-0 (15/10, 15/10)
Kirsten Gomes and Kamir Khan placed second and third respectively to Collins in the Category `A’ draw.
In the Category `A’ plate results, Ethan Jonas won ahead of Kirsten Gomes and Kamir Khan respectively, while in the Pen Plate competition, Ben Mekdeci won from Brigadier Michael Atherly and Ashley DeGroot respectively.
