Defending Champions Guyana fall to third place after CMRC first round

FOLLOWING a weekend mixed fortunes at the first round of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships in Jamaica last weekend, defending country champions Guyana currently lie third.Guyana currently has 131 points accumulated for cars only following last weekend’s racing at Jamwest, while Trinidad and Tobago emerged as surprise leaders with 317 points;.
First-round hosts Jamaica are second with 291 points with the Cayman Islands 60 and Barbados bringing up the rear with 43.
Individually, at the group two level, Guyana has yet to register a point with the lone participant in Jamaica’s Rameez Mohammed picking up mechanical troubles during qualifying.
Currently leading that group is Jamaica’s Sebastian Rae with 55 points while defending group two champion Marc Gill of Trinidad and Tobago sits second with 50 and countrymen Luke Bhola and Daryl Ali sit third and fourth respectively, with 48 and 45 points.

They all drive Honda Civics
At the group three end of things, defending champion Paul Vieira of Trinidad was the only man to get off to the perfect start, winning all three races for 75 points.
Second in that class is The Cayman Islands Gary Barret (Honda Civic) with 42 points, while Nazim Gafoor (Mazda Miata) sits a close third with 40 points.
Danny Persaud, (Mazda Miata) sits fifth with 27 points.
Meanwhile, at the group four all-wheel end of things, defending champion Kristian Jeffrey and his evolution got off to a torrid start, scoring no points due to mechanical troubles, while his father Kevin who drives the same make and model could muster only 15 points for fourth.
They leave Jamaica with the hosts Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore (Audi Quattro) and Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg (Radical RXC) atop the charts with 68 and 43 points respectively. Paul Bodden and his Mitsubishi Evolution of The Cayman Islands sits third in the class with 18 points.
On the two-wheel end of things, Peter “Zoom Zoom” Rae leads with his Jamaican Mazda Rx7 (65), while Trinidad’s Franklyn Boodram (Renault Megane) sits second and Barbados Mark Maloney (Mazda Rx3) sits third with 43 points.
Guyana’s Mohan Rangasammy (Mazda Rx7) is on 39 points, while Danny Persaud (Mazda Miata) brings up the weight with 10 points.

Bikes Lead the Way
Meanwhile, after a dominant showing, Stephen Vieira of Guyana leads the way with 68 points aboard his Kawasaki ZX6-R, while Jamaica’s Robert Mc Donald (Yamaha R6) with 45 points sits second.
Defending champion Elliot Vieira and his Kawasaki ZX6-R is now third in the standings with 43 points, while his cousin Matthew is fourth with 30 points aboard his Triumph Daytona 675.
