THE year 2014 has been good for driver Danny Persaud and his Mazda Miata; sitting second overall in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) behind fellow Guyanese Kristian Jeffrey, coming off an excellent showing in Trinidad and Tobago last month.

Like other drivers, Persaud is looking forward to September 28 when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) hosts its motor racing event at the South Dakota Circuit.
Persaud races in the Group 4 category where the faster and much more powerful cars compete and also in the class which draws much more attention from the fans, apart from the ‘Superbikes’.
His Mazda Miata, he told Chronicle Sport, is as dependable as it’s ever been and after it had an almost flawless run in Trinidad where he won two races and finished second in another, not much work is needed on the machine.
“The car is good, man, I don’t need to do much work on it; matter of fact, if any at all. So I’ll be good for the 28th (September)” Persaud said.
A visit to Persaud’s Duncan Street garage where he also runs his ‘Buy Me Auto Sales’ business, unearthed a shell of a Lotus; a car synonymous with racing and upon enquiry, Persaud said, “That’s for November (16). I want to do well in November so we’re working on the Lotus and we’ll see how that goes”.
Guyana will host the third round of the CMRC on November 16 and it’s the hope of the GMR&SC to make the event the biggest in the Caribbean and Persaud, like others, said he too is excited about the event.
“But right now, we’re looking at September 28. It’s an important event for the club and I want everyone to come out and support it as well,” said Persaud.
Banks Beer and Buy Me Auto Sales are listed as his sponsors and the Mazda Miata driver had nothing but smiles in telling this publication, “I’m good, I’m ready to race”.
Persaud’s proclamations and fantastic confidence paint a picture of nothing but thrills and exhilarating performances at South Dakota on September 28.
