RONDEL Dabi was dethroned as the king of the quarter mile on Sunday, when the second edition of the Quick Shift Drag race event concluded.Dabi was the reigning champion from earlier in the year after having no one in his class but this time around, the Mitsubishi Evolution of Winston Wada built under the banner of Anand Ramchand’s team, shone on race day.
Wada in his all-wheel drive car lost the first of the best-of-three final series by a slim margin to Dabi, in his burly beast of a Toyota Supra but recovered in Race two, to level the stakes and bring the proceedings to the winner-take-all third race.
Dabi in his push to get the perfect launch breached the starting lights before his time and was disqualified, leaving Wada with an easy win and the 9-second class win, the trophy and the bragging rights.
The 10-second class was another battle to the finish between Nazurdeen Mohammed and his BMW M5 and Shan Seejattan’s Toyota Levin
Seejattan originally qualified in the 11-second class but bettered that time during the elimination stages, pushing him into the 10-second class and eventually into the 10-second category where he lost 2-1 in a close best-of-three series.
At the 11-second level, Anand Ramchand took top honours with his Toyota Verossa while at the 12-second class, Romeo Singh carted off the top prize.
Imran Khan made the best of the final of the 13-second class as did Fazal Bacchus (14 seconds), Clifford Lalbeharry (15 seconds) and Keron Williams (16-second class)
In the two-wheel segment, Ricardo Fagundes took the top spot with his Yamaha R1-M.
The day’s event was sponsored by GT&T, Valvoline, Fly Jamaica, South Land International Inc, Universal Communications Inc, Gran Sports, Rent-a-Tent, Ganesh Parts & General Store, Fanatix Designs, A&R Jiwanram Printery.
