COUNCILLOR Rawle Friday will be serving in the capacity of Mayor of Linden for a period of two weeks beginning today.Substantive Mayor Carwyn Holland and his Deputy Waneka Arrindell are on leave for vacation purposes simultaneously.

Councillor Friday was elected by his fellow councillors to act in the esteemed capacity at a recently held extraordinary meeting.

Councillor Lennox Gasper moved a motion for Friday to act in the absence of Holland; it was seconded by Councillor Fern McKoy and approved by the Council.

Councillor Friday is a pastor and manages the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Linden Branch. He is also the Chairman of the Parks and Market Committee and a member of several committees.

In an invited comment, Councillor Friday said he intends to work as a team with the other councillors in the best interest of the Council.

“All that I can do for that period of time is to continue on the path that we have started as a team and to continue on matters that were started by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor,” he posited.

He said priority will be given to the $16M subvention that the Council has received from Government and implementation of measures to allow for the continuation of progress in Linden.

Councillor Friday has a full-time job and will be spending as much time as possible at the Mayor’s chamber.

The law does not allow for the Council to select a Deputy Mayor in his or her absence so Councillor Friday will act in both capacities.
