‘Congo Man’ to be sentenced for dangerous driving

FORTY-six-year-old Chetram Ramkissoon called “Congo Man”, of Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, appeared at the Reliance Magistrates Court before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus, charged with dangerous driving.

Ramkissoon, who pleaded guilty to the charge, allegedly drove his motor car above the speed limit and crashed into a Chinese restaurant, resulting in damage to a gatepost, a gate and the dining area after he failed to stop at the five-corner junction at East Canje, Berbice.
Particulars of the charge stated that on September 8, 2014 at Main Street, East Canje, Ramkissoon drove his motor vehicle in a dangerous manner. He was placed on $50,000 bail and is expected to return to court on October 3,for report and sentencing.
The adjournment is to facilitate Ramkissoon’s promise to repair the fence and other damage to the building, which is being rented by Chinese nationals. However, the police has not instituted a damage to property charge against the defendant.
