COME Sunday, November 16 when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) hosts the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), one driver; Irfaan Kalamadeen, is aiming to stand out.

Behind the wheel of his turbo-charged Ultra Lubricants/Jiffy Lube-sponsored Mazda RX7; Kalamadeen is projecting to finish on top of the podium in Group 4 but confesses that this year, the competition is stiff. We got a lot of guys who will be ready and racing at their best, but I know my car will do well.”
When Chronicle Sport visited his garage, Kalamadeen and international tuner and ace technician Omar Crespo were all busy putting in some much needed work on his machine.
“Omar is one the best tuners out there and he brings a lot to the team and helps to make you better in so many ways,” Kalamadeen said, while stating, “I did some work on the cooling system, the suspension and work on the balance because that’s an area I was lacking recently.
So the intention is to be very fast out of the turns. The car will now have better handling, will corner better. Fast acceleration, so all-in-all, I’m very excited about the races.”
Meanwhile, the car #91 driver believes that unlike recent years, this time around, Guyana will have most of, if not all of their premier cars and drivers on show; something he says is good for the sport since persons come out on race day to see some of the cars that are familiar to them.
“It’s going to be great! I know Andrew King will be there, I see Kevin and Kristian (Jeffrey) also and that’s what is needed, you know, people actually come out to see big names compete and that’s why I think this year will be one of the biggest,” Kalamadeen said.
With the influx of overseas competition, Kalamadeen is more than certain that not only will his Mazda RX7 stand out, but also it will match pound for pound, any car in its class.
