JOHN Carpenter will serve another term as president of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) after returning to the position he held with distinction, following the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections last Monday. Carpenter sits at the helm of one of the country’s most popular sport and will have Shairaz Roshandin as his vice-president; Diana D’Ornellas elected to serve as secretary, Hansraj Singh treasurer and veteran ace driver Chet Singh assistant secretary treasurer.

Danny Persaud is the club captain and Andrew King GMR&SC technical adviser. Wayne Vieira, Jeremy Fernandes, Carey Harris, Paul Jiwanram and Ramiez Mohamad are the committee members.
“We have our first committee meeting on Thursday; we’re going to put together our race schedule for the rest of the year. But we have a group touring Jamaica for a two-day race meet on February 28 and March 1 but after our first meeting I would be able to give more information,” Carpenter told Chronicle Sport when contacted yesterday.
Meanwhile, the GMR&SC will open its season with the staging on an Endurance and Fun Day on February 8, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to an official from the GMR&SC, the day’s activities will include a two-hour Endurance Race, Dexterity and Reverse races and a Time Attack.
The official added that competitors will be asked to pay $2 000 to enter the competition and admission for spectators is $500. Starting-time is 11:00hrs. (Rawle Toney)
