TORONTO, Canada –After seven years competing in the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) and reaching five consecutive finals in the East Division, Caribbean Sensation have no intention of “calling it a day”.Instead, they are raring to go and hoping to go one step better when the various competitions, organised by the OSCL get under way next month.

An undaunted president Harri Sukhu told Chronicle Sport, while winning should obviously be the main aim of any team, be it softball or any other sport, he’s making great efforts to also preserve the culture that has been adopted from his native country Guyana.
In the most recent final, played last October, Caribbean Sensation seemed on the way to breaking the jinx after limiting opponents East Coast to a challenging 136 for seven in their allotted 20 overs but once again stuttered to 128 for six in their allotment of overs, thereby losing by eight runs.
However, there was some consolation for Sukhu, as the Over-50 side captured the Over-50 championship in the Ontario Masters Softball Cricket League (OMSCL) while Over-40s placed fourth overall, also in the Masters.
Sukhu recalled migrating to Canada at the tender age of 10 and while not playing much cricket in Guyana, is grateful not only for being part of his team but also for what he termed “helping to find our identity”.
For this year, Caribbean Sensation will continue to field its senior team in the OSCL while the Over-50 will compete in the OMSCL. The club has decided not to field an Over-40 side this season.
The senior team will once again be led by Navin Singh and includes stalwarts Anil Samuel, Anand Balwant, Sheik Khan, Richard Driffield, Suresh Persaud, Zaheer Allard, Shane Murli, Terry Mathura and Sukhu himself. These players have been undergoing rigorous indoor practice due to the sodden conditions of most of the grounds here. (Frederick Halley)
