Car theft accused gets bail

A 20-YEAR-OLD porter was on Tuesday placed on $40,000 bail when he appeared before city magistrate Dylon Bess on a simple larceny charge.Tamish Bowen of West Ruimveldt Back Road, Georgetown is accused of stealing Andy Beckham’s $1.1M motor car on May 25 at Georgetown.

Bowen first admitted the crime, telling the court: “It was an old car… I found the keys inside but I didn’t know it could have moved, so I decided to turn it and the lights came on”.

However, Magistrate Bess changed Bowen’s plea to not guilty after the man told him: “Sir, I didn’t touch no car valued so much. That price lil too expensive fuh ah old car”.

Prosecutor Christopher Morris objected to bail on ground that the accused did not have a fixed place of abode, but Bowen was granted bail and ordered to return to court on June 14.
