Bus conductor jailed for three years – fined for narcotics possession

BUS conductor Randy Norton, of Lot 39 Austin Street, Campbellville, was yesterday handed a three-year prison sentence for having been caught with 14 grammes of marijuana in his possession on February 07 at Cornhill Street, Stabroek, Georgetown.

The sentence was passed on the 36-year-old father of seven by city magistrate Dylon Bess after he was found guilty as charged.

During his first court appearance before former Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Norton had been placed on $50,000 bail after denying the charge. The matter was subsequently transferred to Magistrate Bess for trial.

In addition to the incarceration, the magistrate also fined Norton a sum in excess of $30,000 for being in possession of the narcotic.
