THE body of an unidentified male of Indian descent was discovered by residents of Grant Street, Paradise, East Coast Demerara on Tuesday morning in a trench.A crowd subsequently gathered, the police were alerted and the man was fished out of the trench.He was clad in a dark blue t-shirt, a light blue jeans and was bare-footed. One person said he was not known in the community while another claimed that the victim was known as a habitual drinker and smoker.

“He had a bottle in his crotch. I don’t know if it was poison or what but the body ain’t had no wounds,” the resident said.

Commander of C’ Division Marlon Chapman told this publication that the case was being treated as a suspected drowning as no marks were seen on the man.

However, a post mortem will be conducted to verify the actual cause of death.

The body was removed after law enforcement officers completed their investigations.
