THE body of an unidentified male of African descent was picked up on the Kingston seashore behind the Marriott Hotel yesterday afternoon.

The Guyana Chronicle was told that the body was spotted by persons who were either guests at the hotel or were walking along the beach area.

The police, when informed, immediately rushed to the location, secured the body and commenced investigations. There was, however, not much the police could have done at the location, since the Atlantic tide was rising and they had to hurry to remove the body.

Funeral parlour sources could not confirm whether the body has marks of violence, nor were the police willing to provide that information immediately.

A post-mortem will be conducted on the body after identification has been established.

The police will be checking their missing persons’ lists to see if the body might possibly be that of someone who had been reported missing recently. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
