Blackout after excavator causes trees to fall at Ithaca — GPL reports

AN EXCAVATOR being operated by the Mahaica/Mahaicony/Abary Agricultural Development Authority (MMA/ADA) caused some trees to fall onto the GPL transmission and distribution network at Ithaca on Friday at 10:55hrs; and several feeders tripped, causing an outage which affected customers from Canje to Moleson Creek, East Berbice. Electricity was restored to customers from No. 76 Village to Moleson Creek at about 13:10hrs, while remedial work continues on the compromised sections of the network. It is envisioned that customers from No. 75 Village to Canje will be repowered by 18:00hrs on Friday, GPL has said.
