NEW Zealand have risen to the top of the ICC Twenty20 rankings for the first time and West Indies slipped to third despite their World T20 triumph in India.The Black Caps were beaten by England in the semi-final of the World T20 back in March, but have now nine of their last 11 matches in the shortest format.
New Zealand are level on points with India, but their total is 0.21 higher than MS Dhoni’s side when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point.
The Windies drop a place and are 10 points behind New Zealand and India largely due to the results from the 2012-13 season – when they won their first World T20 title – no longer counting.
South Africa replace World T20 runners-up England in fourth spot, with Australia sixth ahead of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
World champions Australia remain top of the ODI rankings, but their lead has been reduced to 11 points by second-placed New Zealand.
The Proteas leapfrog India into third, with Sri Lanka fifth ahead of England, Bangladesh, the Windies, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The ICC confirmed on Tuesday that Australia had stretched their lead at the summit of the Test rankings to six points over India, with South Africa dropping to sixth.
