Big prize money on offer for Irene Benjamin’s cycle road race in Berbice

BIG prize money will be on offer today when the Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice stages the Irene Benjamin 75th birth anniversary cycle road race along the Corentyne Coast, Berbice.

The event which wheels off at 09:00hrs is expected to attract most of the country’s top pedal-pushers, as the lucrative cash prizes are on offer.
Over $350 000 will be up for grabs with the overall winner taking home $75 000.
All in all, the top three finishers in the open category will be rewarded for their efforts as well as the top three juniors, the top three veterans, the top three mountain bikers and the top three BMX riders.
The event which is being sponsored by Benjamin’s Bicycle Shop situated in Fyrish, Corentyne will see senior and junior cyclists cover a distance of 60 miles, while the veterans will ride for 40 miles.
The female cyclists and mountain bikers will cover four miles and the BMX riders two miles.
The BMX riders will pedal off from the Albion Police Station and finish at Benjamin’s Bike Shop, Fyrish, Corentyne.
The females and mountain bikers will move off from Rose Hall Town and end at the same location as the BMX riders.
The veterans, after being sent off from Fyrish, will pedal 40 miles to the vicinity of Nand Persaud Rice Mills at Number 36 Village, Corentyne before turning back to finish at the place of origin.
The seniors and juniors will also move off from Benjamin’s Bike Shop at Fyrish, but will turn back at Number 66 Village Corentyne to finish at the place of origin.
