The 27-year-old had been employed as a mechanic at Kris Jagdeo Construction Company. The Guyana Chronicle understands that, following investigations, the police were able to detain the driver of the motor lorry. The vehicle is contracted to the Guyana Sugar Corporation, Albion Estate.

Davendra Rampadarat, brother of the deceased, said Randy left home for his place of employment at about 05:00hrs, and at 05:15 hrs, he received a call informing the family of the accident.

“We get a call saying Randy get in an accident, let we go road quick; so I tell my parents and we run out to the road,” Davendra said.

He recalled seeing the lifeless body of his brother covered in blood lying in the middle of the public road.

“He was in a bad state. The right side of the body was completely damaged. His head was smashed in and his hands and feet appeared broken… Whatever hit him down hit him (with) power,” the elder brother recalled.

Rose Rampadarat, the dead man’s mother, tearfully described her son as a hardworking individual who had a “few bad habits”. She said she spoke to him before retiring to bed, and did not see him before he left for work.
