THE BERBICE Cricket Board (BCB) has reappointed longstanding Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Secretary/Chief Executive Officer Hilbert Foster as Chairman of its highly successful Special Events Committee and also Head of the BCB 75th Anniversary Committee.Foster, who had resigned from the position in May due to illness, was approached by Executives of the Board after regaining his health and he agreed, although on the terms that the activities of the Committee would be less hectic than his last five years when over 600 activities/programmes were successfully completed.

Foster in an invited comment stated that while he had agreed to assist Berbice cricket, his main priority would be his duties at the RHTYSC.

Since his resignation, the BCB had not undertaken a single special events programme and he expressed his disappointment that no one was able to step up to the challenges.

Instead of undertaking a record-breaking 175 activities/programmes per year, Foster disclosed that the BCB Special Events Committee would now concentrate on 20-30 major projects per year including a massive countywide coaching programme.

An Annual Awards Ceremony, Magazine, Elite Training Programme, assistance to less fortunate clubs and Anti-Drugs and Pro-Education programmes will also be undertaken, while sponsorship would also be obtained for tournaments at the Under-15, U-17, U-19, female, second and first divisions levels.

During the period August to September 2014 the BCB would be celebrating its 75th Anniversary, having been formed in 1939 to administer the game of cricket in the Ancient County. To this end, the BCB would be organising a series of activities to mark the special anniversary.

Members of the Special Events Committee are Anil Beharry, Angela Haniff, Winston Smith, Leslie Solomon, Rabindranauth Saywack and Gregory Rambarran. Foster has issued a challenge to the members to work together and dedicate themselves to the task of developing cricket in Berbice.
