BCB congratulates Bishoo on record bowling feats

FOLLOWING Devendra Bishoo’s bowling feats in Guyana’s final match of the preliminary round in this year’s West Indies Cricket Board Regional four-day competition, in which the discarded West Indies leg-spinner snared a total of 15 victims, including nine in the first innings, the Berbice Cricket Board took the opportunity to congratulate Bishoo on his feats.Below is the congratulatory message sent by the BCB, with a few comments from its vice-president Anil Beharry.
The Berbice Cricket Board takes this opportunity to congratulate leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for etching his name in the record books after his outstanding bowling figures in the last round of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional four-day cricket competition against Trinidad and Tobago.
“First, he took 9 wickets in the first innings and returned to take 6 in the second innings to end with 15 wickets in the game,” the release noted.
In an invited comment, Beharry said that despite Guyana’s poor performance this year, he is very pleased with the performance of Bishoo, adding that the BCB is confident that Bishoo can return to the West Indies sooner than later.
He said when Bishoo was dropped for the penultimate game he knew that he would have returned with a bang as he is known to be a determined, hard-working, disciplined and talented cricketer.
Beharry said he still can’t understand how Guyana performed so badly, taking into consideration that this team is one of the best we can put together over the years and called for a total overhaul of Guyana’s cricket if we are to return to the top.
“It is very painful to see how poorly we performed match after match, stated Beharry, who questioned some of the players’ commitment as well, but with Bishoo’s outstanding bowling in the last match in particular, there is still hope.
He asked for patience for the younger players; with proper nurturing, they will deliver in the future.
“The cupboard is not empty. The young Rajendra Chandrika, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Ronsford Beaton, Vishal Singh, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Gudakesh Motie, Akshay Homraj, Raun Johnson and Shimron Hetmyer, among others, are very talented,” said Beharry, who took the time to once again congratulate Bishoo and wish him well in the future.
