The Clive ‘The Punisher’ Atwell fundraiser held last Saturday at the Payless Variety store was a success despite heavy rainfall. Atwell was grateful for the support he received but was moved to tears on two occasions. The first being when a one-legged man braved the rains to make his contribution.
The second occurred at the hands of children who came fully attired in their rain gear with their parents to donate.
The boxer encouraged the children to keep on the good and kind path in life while also pronouncing a benediction with a scripture from Isaiah 11:6 which said ‘and a little child will lead them all’. He also advised them to be leaders and always respect persons no matter how successful they are.
At the event’s end, Atwell stated “The public has been responding kindly to me and I am grateful, and should the Government keep its pledge of $2Million and am I to receive it soon along with the generous contributions from Guyana, I will soon reach the target.”
He finished by thanking God and the persons involved in his life as well as those who have helped along his journey to full recovery.
Atwell fainted in the ninth round of his title fight against T&T based Dexter Gonzales at the Giftland Mall and had an emergency surgery done the same night for bleeding in his brain.
Atwell is scheduled for a second surgery which cannot be done in Guyana, and is in need of GYD 5 Million for the operation, after care and air tickets to T&T where the surgery will be done.
