Courting Frenchman fined $30,000 for illegally entering Guyana

THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD French national Marceino Browne yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry charged with illegally entering Guyana by sea at Charity, Essequibo on July 3, and disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer.

Browne pleaded guilty to the charge, and explained to the court, through an interpreter, that he is an electrician with no prior or pending convictions, whose family members live in France, from where he had come to Guyana to get married. He said he had come via boat but immigration was already closed and the boat had left, so his only alternative was to travel to Georgetown from Essequibo.

Browne was fined $30,000 with an alternative of three months’ imprisonment.
