Armed bandits rob Corentyne family

‘B’ Division police are seeking to apprehend two men who attacked and robbed a Number 72 Village Corentyne, East Berbice family of cash and valuables at about 18:35hrs on Tuesday.A police source said the two suspects fit the description of the persons who committed a robbery in a similar manner at Number 63 Beach recently.

Forty-four-year-old Sabitree Jagnanand and her son were relaxing in their hammocks when two masked men, armed respectively with a gun and a cutlass, invaded their premises and demanded that they hand over all their cash and valuables.

Jagnanand, who operates a grocery shop at her premises, said the men beat her son and locked him in a store room, while they took her upstairs and continued to demand cash and jewellery as they threatened to hurt her if she did not comply with their demands.

The robbers deprived the Jagnanand family of a quantity of jewellery, G$725,000 in cash, a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, a quantity of phone cards and a tablet device before discharging several rounds in the air as they escaped from the robbery scene.

Although the police have as yet made no arrest, this matter is actively being investigated.
